Re: BBC iPlayer Patterns

Postby justlaura » Sat Jun 28, 2014 8:59 pm

I apologize if this is not the correct place to post this.

Has anyone had any luck getting the "new" iPlayer to work with the Firefox FoxyProxy extension (non-paid proxy?) With the previous version of iPlayer, I used the patterns above and as long as I could find a proxy that was accepting connections, I had no problems.

Since the advent of the "new" iPlayer, nothing's working. I've tried using auto-add and logging to find patterns, but so far haven't had any luck. Has the BBC finally caught on to proxy use and taken measures to prohibit it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you and sorry again if I shouldn't have posted this here.

Hi, it seems that since BBC has launched the new iPlayer they started to use flash to check locations and flash connections cannot be properly handled by HTTP proxies. We recommend to use VPN (it is offered for free for our UK proxy accounts owners).

Oh no. I was afraid of that. :(

Thank you for your reply. Not sure if a VPN will work for me, due to the fact that I'm sharing a slow-ish DSL connection with three other people. But I'll look into it.

Thank you all at FoxyProxy for a great product, I've been using it for several years to watch iPlayer and have absolutely no complaints. If I do decide to try the VPN, your service will be the one I purchase.

I have it working. I'm watching BBC One live via foxyproxy as we speak.

match *b*b*c*c*o*u*k*/*

It's hackish, but it does work.

Hi,

Although it was hackish that pattern got me looking at exactly what addresses it covered.

Here's something (a little) less hackish...

http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/*
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/*
https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/*

In addition, for Live iPlayer, add the following pattern...

http://*.bbcfmt.vo.llnwd.net/*

Although you need a good proxy for that to work without stuttering.

Hope that helps.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing that! Are you able to play SD streams, too? In our experience--which we haven't updated in a couple of months because we don't regularly watch BBC -- we've only been able to play HD streams through the proxies (VPN works with anything but not the proxy).
